The Story Behind Our Fall Collection: How We Choose Our Autumn Scents
Every year around midsummer, while everyone else is still deep in cottage mode, our team is already thinking about Fall. It sounds a little backwards — planning apple and cinnamon scents while it's still shorts weather — but that's exactly how long it actually takes to get a new collection right.
Here's a peek behind the curtain at how our Fall lineup actually comes together.
It Starts with a Feeling, Not a Flavour
We don't start by picking "apple" or "pumpkin" as ingredients. We start by asking what we want someone to feel when they walk into a room burning the candle — the first cold morning that needs a sweater, the smell of a market stand full of apples, a kitchen that's suddenly baking again after a summer of barely turning on the oven.
Once we know the feeling, the scent notes follow.
Small-Batch Testing, Over and Over
Every scent — Apple Harvest, Cinnamon Crumble, Pumpkin Pecan Waffle — goes through multiple rounds of small-batch testing before it ever gets a label. We're looking for balance: warm without being cloying, sweet without smelling artificial, cozy without smelling like a candle aisle cliché.
Some scents take two rounds. Some take six. We'd rather delay a launch than ship something that doesn't earn its spot in the Fall lineup.
Why We Launch Early
You'll notice our Fall Collection shows up before the leaves have even started turning. That's intentional. Fall has one of the shortest "peak" windows of any season — by the time pumpkin spice is everywhere, you've only got a few weeks before everyone's onto Christmas. We'd rather give you the full season to enjoy it, not just the tail end.
The Scents That Almost Didn't Make the Cut
Not every test batch becomes a real scent. We've killed ideas that smelled incredible in the lab but fell flat once they were actually burning in a room for a few hours (candle scent and "cold sniff" scent are two very different things). The ones that make it to your candle shelf have all survived that real-world test.
Final Thought
Fall might be our favourite season to develop scents for, purely because it gives us permission to go all-in on cozy — something we don't get to do quite the same way in the middle of summer.
